Holidays and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

I hope you’re all doing well and are much more ready for the holiday than I am! Though my master plan of weakly spoiling the kids year round has worked its magic so at least I’m not rushing around shopping for last minute electronics (though with a year to go to my eldest going to college I fear they’ll have the last laugh!)Just a few quick notes as the grass edges its way to hibernation, I’ll gift you a short summary with fuller details below

1. Winterising now and into January
2. Sprinklers = OFF – Cup Test them before the Summer.
3. Gift your lawn compost for the holidays
4. Brown patch is a minor – and likely already dormant – concern.
5. Winter Weeds (and kyllinga.)
6. Putting myself in the quiet corner

1. We’re just now running through the final application of the year. As with last year, this is intentionally late to try and control pesky winter weeds. If you haven’t seen us yet it will be the first few weeks of January.
2. Sprinklers should be off completely now, this isn’t just an early Christmas present on your water bill but will also help control weeds. Please note that even if we apply product you can wait days or longer for rain if necessary.
3. We continue to do winter top dressing and recommend it for all who have some money to burn in their landscaping budget . It’s like tucking your lawn under a lovely, organic blanket for winter and will also kick start the grass once the growing season kicks in. If you’re interested in pricing please respond COMPOST to this email, right now we’re scheduling in January.
4. We’ve had a very mild brown patch season but by now if you have noticed brown areas developing in your lawn (and knowing you have had your sprinklers off for months, of course ) then it’s likely already dormant. Call, email or send us pictures if you have a concern.
5. Winter weeds are just getting going, expect to see emerging poa annua, wild strawberry, chickweed and mixes of rye or fescue. Though a visual nuisance these will not hurt your grass and will die off as temps rise – the annual weeds that we DO want you to keep an eye out for are kyllinga and nutsedge. See pictures of all below.
6. Lastly, we’ll be taking a break 12/22/23 – 1/2/24, we won’t be checking emails with any regularity so if you believe you have a genuine grass emergency please text 713 398 1464. Or alternatively go back inside and have another glass of eggnog
